James Cameron's Avatar - Plagariarism?

Avatar. Super Blockbuster. Millions of happy viewers. Blam! James Cameron did it again.

Amongst the viewers however, were some people who are not happy with the movie. Not because of the cheesy mainstream aesthetics of this flick but because James Cameron stole work from them (or others), used for the story of Avatar, so they claim.

I stumbled upon one case randomly via chinadaily.com. When I wanted to find out more about this case, I found other cases as well. Here and here and here. And I assume I could find even more people claiming the same thing. Seems like they are coming out of their holes like mice, trying to get something of the (cheesy) cheese.

But even if they are right… I am wondering, if the authors, who’s books were linked to Avatar, maybe ripped off each other as well, as some ideas are so similar? And isn’t a (good) finished product more than the sum of it’s single parts?

Finally some love, hugs and punches again for our Love, Hugs & Punches blog! There is probably no other MMO thats fits more perfectly to our blog than the MMO called Love.

Finally some love, hugs and punches again for our Love, Hugs & Punches blog! There is probably no other MMO thats fits more perfectly to our blog than the MMO called Love, which I want to show here. (Because it also contains hugs and punches hihi).

What’s basically happening in this computer game is this: Players are on a strange planet and try to settle on it. So does the AI (Artificial Intelligence). Sadly, the AI is not cuddly and does not want to hug the players. Instead they want to defeat them (not just with punches but with guns and stuff). However, players can and have to stick together. They need to explore the planet, build cities and technologies. They can even change the planets surface, dig holes etc.

If you only know the usual big$ MMO’s of the mainstream corporations and gave up hope regarding different and intelligent MMO’s look no further. Check out Love. You can also read a little review here.

Yesterday I took a long bath and afterwards phoned with a friend. We talked about reusing towels after bathing. Every time she uses a towel after a bath, she throws it into the hamper. I said it’s wrong because a towel can be reused after drying a cleaned body! Just make sure that the towel can dry quickly after use. I think reusing it a couple of times is perfectly safe and safes some energy.

Yes, I know. We (Polignostix) are just roughly 1 inch tall and washing our tiny towels does not use a lot of energy. But I suggest this to all my fellow “gnomes” but especially to taller humans! It safes energy and does not degrade life quality at all.

I found an interesting website that indirectly indicates, in an entertaining way, how much fake is going on with photos in magazines.

I found an interesting website that indirectly indicates, in an entertaining way, how much fake is going on with photos in magazines. It shows photo manipulation of commercial pictures that went wrong. Like this:

Photo Manipulation Adobe Photoshop (Source: http://photoshopdisasters.blogspot.com/)

But actually, faking is much worse than a lot of people might imagine and than this site demonstrates. Of course every somewhat sophisticated mind knows that there is a lot of photo manipulation going on. But it seems like most people think of it as re-touche of model pictures, fashion related photographs, commercials etc..

But I do know, that actually “innocent” pictures in news magazines are sometimes enhanced as well, in order to underline, what the author or photographer wants to say. For example, if a newspaper makes a small, not so important article about person xy being sad, they might even enhance that photo, to make the person look even sadder than he was. Another example could be an article about a live concert at a beach at sunset, and they manipulate the sunset picture, to exaggerate how great the sunset was. Not to speak of heavily manipulated pictures to make up completely fake stories.

Also, photo manipulation is not as old (new) as Adobe Photoshop. Photo manipulation is as old as photography. Not the oldest but a famous example can be seen here:

Stalin and Nikolai Yezhov (Source: Wikipedia.com)

Stalin without Nikolai Yezhov (Source: Wikipedia.com)

The aforementioned website, that shows funny photo manipulation, that went wrong, can be found here.
